He's aware that these creatures were human once, in a way--but they're certainly not now, and there's no salvation for them beyond destruction.

Anyway, fortunately, Goz lights up!! He nods vigorously, promising to escort Daan to the village. Is this because I forgot how this story started? No of course not. I've never forgotten anything in my life.
As they walk, Goz explains more about their task. He and the other Finders were sent after rumors of "The Forest Of No Return" and the village nestled inside. The story is exactly as it sounds: those who go to the village supposedly never come back, and there are rumors of an evil witch floating around. He and the rest of his group didn't get very far into their investigation, as they were caught off-guard by the Akuma. All the rest of them died: Goz is the last Finder standing.
Daan can ask any questions he wants, or he can just listen to Goz, it's up to him. But eventually, they'll reach the village. It's very small, and it seems almost deserted, but Daan can spot three figures around: a young woman sweeping outside of a building, an older man sitting on a bench, and a young child drawing in the dirt with a stick.
Does he talk to any of them, or does he check out the rest of the town?]
[ He's just nodding along and listening. You're a good one, Gozu... or Goz??? Sounds like your typical early JRPG quest set-up... what is he supposed to do in this village again though, just kill akuma? Find the probable-akuma that's kidnapping people? What'd the Order tell him.
He'll inquire the young woman about what's goin' on in this place, ask more about the forest and village rumours. ]
