[ this is what's strange to yuffie. she's been a ninja and a warrior ever since she was young. the war between wutai and shinra encompassed most of her life, and even with the ceasefire it wasn't truly over. it was just on pause. she's used to life or death. and despite how goofy (yaywon voice) she acts, she's well aware of her own mortality. has been, since for as long as she could remember. she's been surrounded by so much death it's impossible not to be. that's why she lives the way she does, because any day can and will be her last. and she's always thought that went without saying. even cloud's group is in frequent mortal peril. and they knew what they were signing up for ]
[ here, people don't ever treat her like a combatant. they treat her like a child, mostly. but she's baffled to get questioned on her choice to confront boothill. it had been hard, scary even, but she was fully prepared to incapacitate or even kill him if she had to. if he was really was going to be going after everyone as he had claimed. ]
[ and this coming from kanda.... well. it's unexpected. he's... concerned? is that what it is? ]
He could have. [ she will not deny that ] But I'm a ninja. Fighting is what I do. Unlike Mathis.
[Imagine if he were to fuss and be protective. How funny would that be.
Granted--it's not like he doesn't want her to live. Exorcists are destroyers, not saviors, and he stands by that, but what are they fighting for, if not to save the world? He wants minimal losses just like anyone else. And he isn't going to disregard any fighters under these circumstances. He's pretty sure they'll need all the firepower they can get, especially with people like Mathis around.
No--he saw her weapon. No one has something like that if they can't use it. But:]
You hesitated. [His tone certainly isn't gentle, but it is, perhaps, not as harsh as one might expect--not as harsh as it would've been a few months ago. Just blunt, like always.] Strike faster next time.
[ well, she's definitely heard worse, and he's got a point. it's definitely a far cry from being treated like a kid. so she doesn't look bothered. speaks quietly, a little uncharacteristic for her ]
Yeah. You're right.
[ at least he didn't actually attack anyone in the trial. not like today, in the execution. but then again, the actual monster monster traits hadn't been what she expected, either ]
And now we know what the "monster going nuts" actually means. So I'll be ready next time.
[ yeah, she's fully assuming there's going to be a next time. pessimistic ]
[Kanda knows a lot of people who mask their deeper thoughts and feelings with mischief and cheer, so it doesn't really surprise him to find that she apparently does, too. If anything, it helps to know that she's capable of taking this seriously--if she can show that she has it in her to follow through, that's all that really matters in the end.]
[ and one of them is his castmates. she lets out a little sigh, more just tension releasing than anything. it has been a long day of exec shenanigans ]
... Thanks.
[ because she knows he meant well. because she can tell that he's not looking down on her for being a kid or anything. ]
