[The thing is, he's gotten to know Kanda better over the last couple of weeks, but still certainly wouldn't claim to know him well, even with the things he's seen or with help from Lavi. So while it's obvious Kanda isn't in a good mood, he's not entirely sure... what to do about it. How to help.
Honestly, he's not even sure why he tracked Kanda down when anyone's mood after that would be bad and any response to "how are you" is basically "not great captain". There's a little beat, and then:]
[In fairness to Lucas, there's little anyone can do to help. The one thing he selfishly wants isn't something they can affect on this side, and the rest is just a horrible, endlessly growing pile of stress and restlessness and anger over a hundred different things, with no way to unleash it on the cult.
But--he looks surprised by this? He also wouldn't have expected Lucas to seek him out like this. He hesitates, tempted to just say "no" and march off. Lucas isn't that pushy--he'd probably accept it and leave him be.

Lucas is so funny though. HE'S NOT EVEN WRONG REALLY?? Even knowing why Lucas is the way he is normally wouldn't have made him brush the whole thing off so fast, but he truly got got by the break-in and any resentment or complicated feelings he might've had just turned inward instead. Sometimes you have one thing you're good at and you haven't even managed that for several weeks and it feels bad, man.
But they can go!! Kanda just plans on working through his sword forms in angry silence, though he'll probably respond if Lucas tries to talk to him. IF HE DOESN'T THEY CAN JUST COEXIST AND VIBE BADLY I GUESS]

THIS CAN BE THE WORLD'S SHORTEST THREAD HELP it's fine we'll grab another monday... He will mostly jsut sit there in silence but probably try to help lift his mood a little every now and then by asking about a form or technique if he doesn't seem to mind being interrupted, just to give him something he seemingly enjoys to talk about.]
