Because we already know they'll start over if we bring everyone over, so we have to leave someone there. [Which really fucking sucks. He doesn't envy the living in having to make that decision.] The cult needs six or more for their god. Whoever's left behind is probably going to be sacrificed anyway, especially if there are four or five of them.
[They're so close to the ritual now--he can't imagine the cult won't try some desperate, last-ditch effort to summon their god even if they don't have what they need, and the chances of that are higher the closer to "6" they leave, he thinks. He'd rather get as many people out of their hands and brought here, to safety, as they possibly can, even the method of getting here is terrible.]

Until we have a clearer plan... there are risks either way. We don't know how many people this machine can teleport, or what it'll really do yet. [ she mostly means she hopes it doesn't just explode again ] Though hopefully, we'll find that answer soon.

[Well, that much is true. Normally, Kanda would be less inclined to influence their decisions. Part of his anger over the Camille situation was about the way her choices had been taken from her, after all. But Kanda's built his identity around being willing to make hard, shitty choices. He doesn't care what people think of him or how he handles things--they can hate him all they want, so long as they're alive to do it. And he isn't selfless enough to leave Lavi on the other side, even if it means forcing his hand.
But all they can do is write, in the end. It's up to the living to act.]
