Boothill's body burned up, which means Kanda doesn't have run around in paranoia like he did on Friday; once it's all over, he sheathes his sword and strides away, quick and decisive.
Rondo can find him out by the water, like he often is; he's standing with his arms crossed, sword in hand. The lotus tattoo is back on his hand, and he's quiet and still as he looks at... the water? Maybe? His gaze doesn't sit quite right on it, but. It's fine.]
rondo's out for a walk after all of that - when he spots kanda on his first round, he doesn't stop by, but... when he comes by the water again and finds kanda still there, he pauses, and then turns, his footsteps echoing lightly across the ground as he comes up to stand beside him.
he puts his hand to his heart, briefly, and bows his head, and thinks - thinks about what he might say to someone different, in this moment. his voice softens a little, usual volume toned down. ]
... Mr. Kanda. [ he greets, subdued. ] ...A leaf for your thoughts?
[As usual, he doesn't do anything to acknowledge his approach, nor does he look over at him--though his gaze does shift at the sound of someone else's voice, and he lifts his head slightly to look at the trees instead.
He has a lot of thoughts, and most of them he won't share with anyone, but there are a few things he made abundantly clear yesterday, so--]
We should have killed him yesterday.
[He doesn't say it harshly--at least, not as harshly as might be expected from him. Just bluntly.]
[ even rondo is quiet for a long moment. thoughtful, following his gaze outwards to the landscape as he considers the events of the night. ]
... I agree. [ it was hard. it was so hard to watch. ] I'm not used to having to be on the sidelines like that. And if we could have prevented Karlach having to...
[ having to do that - she would've been able to avoid losing her fingers, sure, but more so, she shouldn't have had to be the one to do it. she clearly liked boothill a lot, maybe the most out of anyone. ]
[Not so much the Karlach thing, because--well. Because this is life, for an exorcist. You wake up, you put on your uniform, and you confront the fact that you might need to cut down the same person who fought beside you yesterday, if they made it through the night in the first place. He thinks it was ridiculous and naive of her to get attached to a stranger so quickly, but it's not like he'd expect a non-exorcist to understand. He can respect that she was able to end it. That's what matters in the end.
(And, Boothill coming back to himself in the end was... not something he'll share his thoughts about, but it didn't go unnoticed.)
But otherwise, he agrees. It was frustrating to be locked out. Especially for someone like Kanda, who is so deeply accustomed to being the one to step in, who has dealt with situations exactly like this all his life.]
No hesitation, next time.
[Also I won't be gone all day so scapegoat me for midtrialing kthx]
